On board with the Choosing Wisely campaign.

We commend the American Society of Anesthesiologists for using solid and transparent methods to develop a “top-five” list of low-value activities that should be avoided. We publ i shed this list1 in an ongoing effort to support the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation’s “Choosing Wisely” campaign aimed at engaging specialty medical societies to identify low-value health care activities. In addition to anesthesiologists, we hope that our inte rna l medic ine co l l eagues who per form preoperative evaluation wil l f ind this l ist helpful in their efforts to reduce waste and improve the value of health care.
